Pelvic floor physical therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapy assesses the patient’s musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems in addition to their lifestyle and habits to help patients recover from a variety of diagnoses related to pelvic pain, the urinary system, bowel function, and sexual function. These problems are common, but because of their vulnerable nature are rarely discussed, making many patients feel isolated and hopeless. However, many of these conditions are completely treatable when you have the right providers on your team. Pelvic floor PT uses a combination of exercise, manual techniques, coordination training, and lifestyle modifications to improve the function of the pelvic floor muscles and its support systems, so you can get back to what you love.
Here are a few common pelvic floor muscle problems and conditions we treat:
Urinary incontinence
Urinary urgency
Urinary frequency
Constipation
Pelvic pain
Pain during pregnancy
Tailbone pain
Low back pain
Abdominal pain
Testicular/scrotal pain
appointment types:
Initial evaluation:
At your first appointment, we will thoroughly discuss your goals, current symptoms, medical history, lifestyle behaviors, and current urinary, bowel, and sexual function. After retrieving this information, a physical assessment is performed which may or may not include an internal pelvic exam to help guide our treatment plan. An internal exam is never required but does provide beneficial insight as to how the pelvic floor muscles are functioning. After the physical assessment, we will create a treatment plan together and develop a home program so you can start making progress toward your goals right away.
follow up appointments:
At each appointment following the initial evaluation, we will discuss what progress you have noticed. We will perform treatment techniques to aid in symptom reduction and healing which may include soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, therapeutic exercise, dry needling, and neuromuscular retraining. We will review your current home program and make any necessary adjustments based on your progress and remaining symptoms.
virtual visits:
Virtual visits are completed via a video call and can be an extremely useful tool for certain pelvic floor conditions. At your virtual visit, we can perform movement and posture analysis, create and modify exercise programs, and discuss lifestyle modifications to resolve your symptoms. Virtual visits can be utilized for both the initial evaluation and/or follow up visits. Some patients may benefit from a combination of in-person and virtual visits, while others may need all virtual or all in-person. My goal is to customize your rehabilitation journey to you and your needs.

FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION COUNSELING
Functional nutrition counseling looks at nutrition from a holistic lens. We investigate ALL body systems including digestive, endocrine, reproductive, urinary, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, and integumentary. We will assess and track how those systems interact with what you eat and drink as well as how different lifestyle factors may be involved. This provides a much bigger picture of what is going on and helps us reach the root cause of your problem. Together we will create a nutritional plan including diet, supplementation, and lifestyle modifications and strategies to help you heal and maximize your health.
